TL;DR
  • The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is launching in Q2 2022 as the company’s new flagship robot vacuum.
  • Its updated obstacle avoidance system allows cleaning specific pieces of furniture and adapting to different floor materials.
  • The optional Empty Wash Fill Dock can automatically clean its mops and refill its water tank.

Roborock’s chief announcement for CES 2022 is the S7 MaxV Ultra, its latest top-end robot vacuum. Signature features include mopping abilities, an upgraded obstacle-avoidance system, and an optional auto-emptying dock that removes even more of the product’s workload.

The avoidance system is dubbed Reactive AI 2.0 and uses a new neural processor to more accurately detect and react to obstacles. Via the Roborock app, owners can have the Ultra target not just rooms but specific pieces of furniture. The Ultra can additionally identify the flooring materials in any given room. It can then change up the intensity of scrubbing or suction accordingly.

While Roborock’s core mopping technology is unchanged, the optional Empty Wash Fill Dock will automatically clean the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra’s mops and refill its water tank. This allows it to scrub up to 300 square meters (~3,229 square feet) before your help is needed. The dock also collects dry debris, naturally — up to about seven weeks’ worth of grit.

The S7 MaxV Ultra is due to launch in the US in the second quarter of this year. Roborock estimates it could be sometime between April and the end of June. As one would expect, it won’t be cheap. Roborock’s list price is $1,399, making the vacuum even more expensive than iRobot’s top-end Roomba, the $1,100 S9 Plus. It’s not known how much the Empty Wash Fill Dock will cost.
