Update #3 (01/11): After restarting the Oreo update rollout to the OnePlus 5, the team have now uploaded the full factory image for OxygenOS 5.0.1 (2018-01-09) to its site.

If you haven’t already updated your phone, or don’t want to wait for that update notification to pop-up, you can head over to downloads.oneplus.net to flash it yourself. Full installation instructions are included but note you’ll need an unlocked bootloader to flash the .zip file.

Update #2 (01/06): It looks like OnePlus has resumed the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the OnePlus 5. This time it’s rolling out as OxygenOS build 5.0.1, instead of 5.0. The full changelog for OxygenOS 5.0.1 can be found below:

  • Bug fixes for third party camera application
  • Fixed network issues for European operators

Any OnePlus 5 device with an unlocked bootloader will fail when trying to install this update, so be sure to backup your data and re-lock your device to install it. Your device will be completely wiped after this process, so keep that in mind before going through this process.

Update #1 (1/2): OnePlus has added the following note on its forum page:

Because of a bug on Oxygen 5.0, we have cancelled its global release. And we’re preparing for Oxygen 5.0.1, the partial release will go live soon.

We’ll let you know when OxygenOS 5.0.1 has been released.

Christmas arrived one day early for OnePlus 5 owners! The Chinese manufacturer announced on their forum that stable OxygenOS 5.0, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo, will be rolling out via an OTA update starting on Christmas Eve.

Owners of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T (remember, there was no OnePlus 4) have had OxygenOS 5.0 since late November, and select OnePlus 5 owners have been beta testing OxygenOS 5.0 for the past few months. Forum users had been speculating that the completed build of the latest Android flavor would be showing up on the OnePlus 5 before the end of 2017, but it having landed on Christmas Eve is a welcome surprise.

OxygenOS 5.o features updates to most of the major aspects of the software, including a new Camera UI, optimizations for WiFi and battery use, and the latest security patches and fixes. The proprietary Shelf feature of the Oxygen launcher gets a UI overhaul, and you can now upload your photos directly to the Shot on OnePlus collection. Even the calculator gets updated with a new history feature.

The OTA update will hit a small percentage of users initially, with the majority of OnePlus 5 owners getting the update notification on their phones sometime after Christmas Day. If you own a OnePlus 5 and can’t wait that long, forum users have already posted a flashable ZIP file of the update ROM. Using the built-in manual update tool that comes with OxygenOS, performing your own update with a downloaded file is surprisingly easy.
