TL;DR
  • The OnePlus Pad will reportedly come to India in the first half of 2022.
  • A serial leaker claimed that the device won’t launch alongside the OnePlus 10 series.

Update: May 6, 2022 (1:09 AM ET): The OnePlus Pad moniker is now fully registered in India. The same leaker who tipped the tablet’s launch timeline (see original article below) now says that the device is already under internal testing in India. This means OnePlus might be getting ready to launch it soon.

The OnePlus Pad trademark, which was “Marked for Exam” so far, has finally been registered in India.

Original article: December 10, 2021 (1:48 AM ET): realme, HMD Global, and Xiaomi all released tablets in 2021 either for the first time or the first time in a while. OnePlus filed trademarks for a OnePlus Pad earlier this year too, and a new report has now shed light on Indian launch plans.

91mobiles and frequent tipster Mukul Sharma claimed that the OnePlus Pad will come to India by the first half of 2022. Furthermore, Sharma claimed that the tablet won’t debut in India alongside the OnePlus 10 family.

For what it’s worth, the OnePlus 9 series launched in late March 2021. So we’re guessing that a second-quarter launch is on the cards for the tablet if the OnePlus 10 range follows its predecessor’s launch timing.

BBK’s big tablet push

There’s no word on specs just yet, but we hope it’s a little more upmarket than stablemate realme’s first tablet. The realme Pad brings a budget-tier Helio G80 SoC, 3GB to 6GB of RAM, and 32GB to 128GB of expandable storage. Other notable specs include a 7,100mAh battery, 18W charging, and a 10.4-inch LCD panel.

OnePlus and realme might not be the only BBK brands with a tablet though. Rumors point to OPPO and vivo both launching upper mid-range slates as well. And with the upcoming Android 12L targeting foldables and tablets, here’s hoping the Android tablet space continues to grow.
