OnePlus has a pretty patchy reputation when it comes to customer satisfaction and service, but the company has just announced a new optional warranty policy for its smartphones that should help to improve the customer experience.

OnePlus has teamed up with a couple of insurers around the world to offer global protection. OnePlus 2: On-Guard is provided by simplesurance for Europe, and B2X OnePlus Service2 and Protect2 for Indian customers. OnePlus says that it is partnering up with an experienced smartphone insurer to bring a similar policy to the US and Canada in the near future.

The plan covers component breakages and accidental damage, including drops, as well as water damage and vandalism. Insurance can be purchased at checkout for new devices, or customers can contact simplesurance customer support to purchase a policy within 15 days of buying a new phone. Unfortunately, this means that the warranty cannot be applied by early OnePlus 2 customers, which is sure to be a let-down for the company’s most fervent backers.

This warranty program will also roll out to the OnePlus X once it goes on sale in the respective regions.

In Europe, pricing is set at €39.99 for 12 months of On-Guard coverage, or 24 months will set you back €64.99. The B2X Service is priced at Rs. 999 in India, while B2X Protect costs Rs. 1,299 for a 1 year warranty. Prospective Indian customers can read more about the terms and conditions here.
