TL;DR
  • Per a leak, the next OnePlus budget smartphone will be called the Nord N1 5G.
  • The phone will reportedly be a direct replacement for the Nord N10.

The OnePlus Nord was a landmark phone for a firm that usually plied its trade in the flagship arena. Now, after three devices have made their debuts in the Nord series, a fourth is reportedly in the works. According to tipster Max Jambor, the OnePlus Nord N1 5G will be the company’s next mid-range smartphone.

OnePlus launched the Nord in July 2020 signaling the firm’s intent on broadening its affordable offerings. It followed it up with the Nord N10 and Nord N100 further dropping the series’ asking price while shedding features. The Nord N1 will reportedly be a follow up to the N10. To that end, we can likely expect a price tag below the original Nord’s $399.

Little else has been revealed about the phone, but if it remains true to its roots, the Nord N1 is likely to sport a plastic shell and a mid-range Snapdragon chipset.

The Nord N10 debuted with a 64MP rear shooter, a 6.49-inch 90Hz LCD display, a 4,300mAh battery, and the Snapdragon 690 SoC. Despite this cocktail, during our review we found that the phone offered mediocre performance and was difficult to recommend. The OnePlus Nord N1 will need to overcome these issues to be truly successful against Google, Xiaomi, and Samsung’s affordable devices.

OnePlus may have a lengthy period in which to do just that, though. The OnePlus Nord N10 and N100 made their first appearance in October, so it stands to reason we could see a successor in a few months’ time. It also seems unlikely that OnePlus would dilute its OnePlus 9 launch with a budget device announcement.
