OnePlus 6 256GB model now out of stock in US, UK and Canada
The OnePlus 6 model with 256GB of internal storage is now out of stock in the US, UK, and Canada. The device has been listed as out of stock (via Phone Arena) on the OnePlus website only seven days after it first went on sale (May 22).
The 256GB model is the most expensive of the OnePlus 6 variants, available for $629.00 when it was launched. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the most premium version of a latest OnePlus flagship go out of stock soon after release, though.
Last year, the OnePlus 5 was listed as out of stock on OnePlus’ official site only hours after it went on sale, while the OnePlus 5T Sandstone White sold out in less than two hours earlier in 2018.
If you’re interested in picking up the 256GB model now, your only current options are to go through resellers like Amazon or eBay. You’ll have to pay a premium, however — it’s being sold for in the region of $1,000 from some sellers on Amazon.
As for how many OnePlus 6s have been sold so far, we have no idea, though it may not be many at all. OnePlus, a comparatively small Chinese manufacturer, isn’t able to carry stock in the volumes that manufacturers like Samsung or HUAWEI can. It may have only produced a small quantity of 256GB ROM units.
What’s more, OnePlus is known for “low-fi” marketing tactics, from forum posts, to tweets from its founders, to controversial promotions. The team is no doubt aware that sell-out phones create more allure — and headlines — than a one that’s overstocked.
We’ll let you know if and when the 256GB OnePlus 6 is available again from OnePlus. In the meantime, look out for the 128GB Silk White model arriving next week, and don’t miss our full OnePlus 6 review at the link.
