OnePlus 5T's Open Beta 2 features a new Clipboard app, changes to the OnePlus Launcher, and more

OnePlus did not have a great start to 2018, seeing how customers’ credit card information was compromised during purchases. But that did not stop the company from recently releasing the OnePlus 5T’s second Open Beta.

The first thing you might notice is the new Clipboard application, which some people are a bit wary about, seeing how the OnePlus 3T’s Oreo beta was allegedly sending clipboard data to an Alibaba-owned server. That issue was eventually cleared up, though we understand why you still might feel trepidatious towards the company.

Another change is the OnePlus Switch app included as a default part of the Settings in the advanced menu. For the uninitiated, the app lets you migrate some, but not all data from your previous phone, including contacts, text messages, call history, and more.

OnePlus also improved the file manager experience when deleting files, and added a big file management function. The calling notification now includes the caller’s phone number and location information. Elsewhere, the OnePlus Launcher sports a new app drawer design, auto-names folders, and supports the dynamic icon function for the desktop icon clock icon.

Finally, at the system level, OnePlus improved the power consumption measurement, optimized management logic for high power consumption applications, and added an intelligent background application management solution. In other words, Open Beta 2 should more accurately tell you how much battery apps consumer and better manage how background apps consume power.

To round out Open Beta 2, it is still based on Android 8.0 Oreo, not Android 8.1. Also, a Reddit user reported that his system UI continually crashed because they did not remove the Substratum and Andromeda themes they had installed on the OnePlus 5T.
