OnePlus 5T reportedly does away with the OnePlus 5's 'jelly scrolling' effect
No smartphone is perfect, but the OnePlus 5 compounded that feeling when it was discovered that some units exhibited a “jelly scrolling” effect. Based on findings by XDA Developers, however, it appears that the freshly-unveiled OnePlus 5T does not exhibit this strange issue.
“Jelly scrolling” is a phrase folks have attributed to the undesired effect of some content on the screen appearing stretched and squashed when scrolling. There were several theories as to why this happens on the OnePlus 5, with the most popular being that the display was inverted.
The jelly scrolling effect is polarizing in the sense that, while it can be easily ignored, those that pay close attention to it find it incredibly grating and distracting when using the OnePlus 5 on a day-to-day basis. At the time, OnePlus investigated the issue and concluded that it was perfectly normal, so the best bet was to return the OnePlus 5 if it was still in its 15-day return window.
Since the OnePlus 5T was unveiled today, one question surrounding the device was if it exhibits the same jelly scrolling effect as its predecessor. Taking a close look at the phone’s kernel source, XDA found that, because the panel orientation flag was not there, it was concluded that the panel was not inverted.
As such, it is believed that the OnePlus 5T will not exhibit the jelly scrolling effect of its predecessor. We’ll have to wait and see whether that is the case once the OnePlus 5T lands in the hands of many more people, but this bodes well for those who were annoyed by the OnePlus 5’s jelly scrolling.
