A new 5G OnePlus phone is coming this year and everyone will be able to get it

It's not clear if this will be a OnePlus 7T, though, or a OnePlus 7 Pro T. It could be something else entirely.

OnePlus 7 Pro in use from behind

Speaking with The Financial Times (via Android Police), OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that a new OnePlus 5G phone is coming this year. Unlike the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, this new device will be available globally.

The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G is the first 5G smartphone from the brand but is currently exclusive to the United Kingdom. This new OnePlus 5G device does not appear to be the same one as that U.K. exclusive.

This lines up with an earlier rumor we heard about there possibly being a OnePlus 5G smartphone on Sprint landing sometime this year. We originally thought it would just be the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, but now we are not so sure.

We fully expected the company to have at least one more product launch before the end of the year for the iterative updates to the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, presumably called the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro (or 7 Pro T). This would follow what the brand has done historically.

However, the introduction of the Pro variant — as well as its 5G counterpart in the U.K. — potentially throws OnePlus’ usual plans into a twirl. It’s possible that we won’t see a “T” upgrade at all this year. Instead, we could see a brand new OnePlus 5G phone and then the expected OnePlus TV.

Speaking of the OnePlus TV, Lau also admitted that the company’s upcoming smart televisions could support 5G connectivity, making them more akin to large smart displays rather than normal televisions. However, he was not forthright on what advantages 5G connectivity could present within a TV.
