The first major OnePlus 17 leak hints at even higher refresh rate
Oct 16, 2026 — 7:29 AM ET

- OnePlus is apparently testing a 240Hz refresh rate on the OnePlus 17.
- This would be a major leap on paper over the OnePlus 16 and its 185Hz screen.
- Sharp also offers phones with 240Hz screens, but the company uses interpolation to reach this figure.
OnePlus has just launched the OnePlus 16 in China this week, offering a powerful processor and a gigantic battery. However, the phone also delivers a 185Hz OLED screen, making it one of the few phones on the market with such a high refresh rate. It now sounds like OnePlus is thinking about an even higher refresh rate for the OnePlus 17.
Weibo leaker Smart Pikachu has claimed that OnePlus is testing a 240Hz refresh rate on the OnePlus 17. Check out the machine-translated screenshot below.
The leaker claims OnePlus is only testing this refresh rate, so it’s entirely possible that the company’s next phone sticks with a lower refresh rate. We do wonder whether the firm is testing a native 240Hz refresh rate or an interpolated 240Hz display, though. Sharp’s recent Aquos phones tout 240Hz screens, but the company uses black frame insertion on 120Hz displays to achieve this. That is, it inserts a black frame between each real frame instead of offering a native 240Hz.
Still, people who love high-refresh-rate phones can’t do better than the OnePlus 16 right now. It has a 185Hz screen and also offers a 165Hz refresh rate for the system UI and virtually all apps. By contrast, the few other phones with a 185Hz screen tend to drop down to 144Hz or 120Hz for the system UI and most apps. OnePlus also claimed that the OnePlus 16’s display offers similar power consumption as a 120Hz screen.
There’s one sure thing about the OnePlus 17, though. It almost certainly won’t be available in Europe or North America, as the company exited these markets earlier this year.
