Never mind OnePlus 15: OnePlus 16 could finally get true 165Hz refresh rate
Aug 19, 2026 — 3:54 AM ET

- The OnePlus 16 is tipped to offer a screen with a “global” 165Hz refresh rate.
- This presumably means it’ll support 165Hz in the system UI and in many apps.
- This would be a major improvement over the OnePlus 15, which only supports 165Hz in a few apps.
OnePlus popularized the adoption of high refresh rate screens back in 2019, and subsequent OnePlus flagships have all offered high refresh rate panels. We’re expecting the OnePlus 16 to continue this trend, and a trusted leaker has now made some screen-related claims.
Digital Chat Station on Weibo claims that the OnePlus 16 has a new screen that’s the industry’s first display to offer a “global” 165Hz refresh rate. The leaker adds that the phone will have new system animations that take advantage of the high refresh rate. Check out the machine-translated screenshot below.
The OnePlus 15 already offers a 165Hz screen, but this option is officially limited to a handful of apps. We’ve even seen an unofficial mod that brings 165Hz to all apps. So our best guess is that the OnePlus 16 could therefore support 165Hz across most apps and the system UI. That’s good news if you want the smoothest experience possible.
Worried about battery life? The leaker also suggested in a follow-up comment that you can still switch to lower refresh rates for improved efficiency. However, I hope the brand properly tunes the 165Hz mode across various apps to dynamically take advantage of low refresh rates.
Other rumored OnePlus 16 specs include a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, a 9,000mAh battery, and a 200MP camera of some kind. It’s a pity then that the phone won’t be available in Europe or the US.
