Update (03/13): Nokia Power User has followed up on its initial report with claims that a "trusted source from China" has corroborated details regarding the long-rumored Nokia 9 PureView.

According to the source, the Nokia 9 will definitely feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. The unnamed source also believes that HMD Global is attempting to strip back excess bezel space by opting for some kind of notch for any front-facing sensors.

As before, it's worth taking all of this with a large pinch of salt, but with more and more OEMs embracing #notchlife, it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see HMD follow suit.

Original story (03/05): HMD Global may be working on another flagship release this year in the form of the Nokia 9 (2018). According to Nokia Power User, the device is tipped to arrive in September this year and be even more powerful than the Nokia 8 Pro—another flagship that the website recently leaked.

NPU didn’t discuss many Nokia 9 specs or feature details, though it did suggest the device will feature a 5.7-inch display with under-screen fingerprint scanning technology. It also suggested it would be as expensive as devices like the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus which starts at $839.99 in the US.

Nokia 8 Sirocco review

The Nokia 8 Sirocco, which HMD Global unveiled at MWC 2018 last week, is the flagship that was previously thought to be the Nokia 9. This was rumored several times last year but its use of a Snapdragon 835 SoC puts it slightly behind competing flagships announced in recent weeks. Seemingly, the Nokia 8 Pro and Nokia 9 PureView will offer an even more premium experience and, if they do arrive, are both likely to feature a Snapdragon 845.

With that being said, it’s early in the day to have such a grasp on devices expected to launch in September: HMD Global likely won’t have ironed out all the details yet—especially with regards to pricing. If recent history is anything to go by there is also an outside possibility that the Nokia 9 will be launched next year under a different name.

It’s still an exciting prospect, however. HMD Global has achieved significant success with its handsets, but it’s still relatively light on products in the premium segment.
