Update, August 23, 2019 (12:50 PM ET): We saw some hands-on leaked images of the Nokia 7.2 a few weeks ago, but now we have some new photos thanks to Techmesto.

One of the leaked pics shows off the device in a quite lovely blue color. See for yourself below!

Unfortunately, we still don’t know many specs for the Nokia 7.2. It looks like it’s going to be an attractive mid-ranger though, regardless of how much (or how little) power it has.

Original article, August 21, 2019 (11:34 AM ET): Earlier today, an executive with Carl ZEISS AG, which makes optical products such as camera lenses, tweeted out an image of the Nokia 7.2. In the tweet, the exec touted that he is “overwhelmed” by modern smartphone cameras.

However, the tweet has since been deleted because the Nokia 7.2 hasn’t been announced yet. Luckily, through the magic of the internet, we have the deleted tweet and the image of the Nokia 7.2 attached to it.

Check out a screenshot of the tweet below, courtesy of Twitter user Mukul Sharma:

Truth be told, we’ve likely seen this phone before. Back in July, we saw a new Nokia device in a protective case with a very similar rear camera system. You can see those images below.

According to the original leaked images, the main sensor of the Nokia 7.2 could be a 48MP sensor. It’s not clear which company makes the sensor, but the Sony IMX586 is probably a good bet.

On the front, you can see a waterdrop-style notch, similar to what we’ve seen on the OnePlus 6T and the OnePlus 7. The leaked images — as well as the now-deleted tweet from the ZEISS executive — show a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, so we can go ahead and assume there won’t be an in-display sensor as we saw on the Nokia 9 PureView.

All in all, the Nokia 7.2 appears to be named accordingly, as it seems to be an iterative upgrade over previous Nokia 7 devices. As such, the phone will be firmly a mid-ranger and will likely have specs that fit that bill (i.e., no Snapdragon 855 Plus on this bad boy).

Since the ZEISS exec references that the Nokia 7.2 will launch in September, it’s very likely we’ll see this device in Berlin at IFA 2019.
