Google IO 2022 my ad center
Google
  • My Ad Center was revealed at Google I/O 2022 earlier today.
  • It will roll out later this year, and give users a more customized ad experience on Google Search.
  • Google is giving customers more power to request the removal of more personal search data.

At today’s Google I/O 2022 developer’s conference, the company announced new ways for users to customize the Search experience. One of these changes is an upcoming feature called My Ad Center. Arriving in late 2022, the new feature will give users a better way to see the kinds of ads they want to see while using Google Search, YouTube, and other platforms.

When you enter the new My Ad Center feature, you can tell Google which ads you like to see most, such as movie, fitness, or food ads. You can also customize the ad experience down to seeing more specific brands in your ads. Of course Google already has features where you can say “I don’t want to see this type of ad” but in our experience it doesn’t always work as intended. Hopefully, My Ad Center will do a better job of this.

In another reveal, Google is giving users better ways to hide more specific personal information in search. The new options are available now and allow users to request the removal of items such as phone numbers, email addresses, and even your home address, from many search results that are tied to your name. Google will not remove those kinds of details from a Search request if they come from  government or other official sources. Google also recently added a feature that allows anyone under the age of 18 to request the removal of any images of themselves in Google Search.
