New Moto Stereo Speaker is Lenovo's most affordable audio mod yet

The new Moto Mod costs less than both JBL SoundBoost mods, but what about compromises?

The Moto Stereo Speaker Mod.
TL;DR
  • The Stereo Speaker mod is the latest Moto Mod from Lenovo.
  • At $60, it’s cheaper than the typical price JBL SoundBoost mods — though they’re both currently on sale.
  • It joins a slideout keyboard and medical add-on as the latest Moto Mods

The Moto Mod concept is probably the most successful take on smartphone mods to date, as we see the range grow all the time. And we can now add one more mod to the list in the form of the Moto Stereo Speaker.

The new mod slaps onto the back of your Moto Z series phone like any other, using your phone’s battery to power the audio experience.

It’s available in red, blue and black, and offers an integrated kickstand, in case you want to watch videos with a friend or two (small screen, be damned). You can also conduct calls via the speaker.

As for a price? The Moto Stereo Speaker will set you back $59.99, making it more affordable than the JBL SoundBoost Speaker and the SoundBoost 2 Moto mods which typically cost $80 each. The JBLs are, however, on sale right now for $59.99 — and as they also offer an integrated 1000mAh battery (with a suggested ten hours of playback) they might be the better buy.

It’s not the only Moto Mod revealed in recent months, as MWC 2018 saw Lenovo show off two more add-ons. The first is a slideout keyboard accessory, while the second is a health-focused mod capable of tracking your heart rate, core body temperature and more.

These new add-ons join a variety of existing mods, including the Hasselblad True Zoom Camera mod, the Insta-Share Projector and the Moto GamePad.
