He’s coming back, and it looks like he’s taking no prisoners. MacGruber, that dim-witted military adventurer who thinks he’s smarter than he is, will soon return to our home screens. Will Forte will once again play MacGruber on Peacock in a new eight-episode comedy series for the NBC Universal-based streaming service.

So when can we expect to watch MacGruber on Peacock, and what will the show be all about anyway? Here’s what we know about the series. You can sign up for the service right now at the link below.

When will MacGruber on Peacock debut?

The series will drop all eight episodes on the service on Thursday, December 16.

What is MacGruber anyway?

The character began as part of a series of popular skits, written by Jorma Taccone and starring Forte, while both were on NBC’s Saturday Night Live sketch comedy show. The skits, which were a parody of the MacGyver TV series, were so popular that a movie was commissioned by Universal.

Directed by Taccone and co-written by him, Forte, and John Solomon, the film was a box office flop, both critically and at the box office, when it was first released in 2010. However, it has since found a growing audience after its release on home video and cable TV.

Will the show be a sequel to the MacGruber movie?

Yes! We know that MacGruber on Peacock will take place sometime after the events of the 2010 MacGruber feature film, which saw him kill his arch-nemesis Dieter Von Cunth (played by Val Kilmer). If you want to get caught up, you can watch the movie right now on Peacock for free (with ads).

What will be the plot of the series?

Before the show debuts, be sure to check out the extended extra above, done in the style of an NBC Dateline interview. It shows Forte as MacGruber in prison, showing how he got put in jail after the death of Dieter Von Cunth and how he believes the US government will eventually have to let him out to solve a new threat (warning: this video is definitely NSFW).

As it turns out, MacGruber is right. The plot of the Peacock series sees him freed to deal with Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth, a person with a mysterious link to MacGruber.

Who else is in the show’s cast?

Besides Forte, MacGruber on Peacock will see the return of his love interest in the movie, Vicki St. Elmo, played once again by Kristen Wiig. Ryan Phillippe will also return and play his movie role of MacGruber’s teammate Dixon Piper. Other cast members will include Sam Elliott as MacGruber’s dad Perry, Laurence Fishburne as General Barrett Fasoose, and Billy Zane will play the main villain Enos Queeth.

Taccone and Solomon also came back to direct the series, and the episodes were also co-written by Forte, Taccone, and Solomon.

That’s all we have so far on MacGruber on Peacock. We will update this post when more information is revealed.
