TL;DR
  • Verizon will sell the LG Wing for $1,000 when it launches on October 15.
  • Pre-orders start October 1.
  • It’s the first US carrier to commit to a release date for the rotating phone.

You no longer have to wonder when you can get your hands on the LG Wing, although you may have to be picky about your choice of carrier. Verizon (disclaimer: this author also writes for Verizon-owned Engadget) has announced an October 15 release date for the LG Wing for a price of $1,000 up front, or $41.66 per month on a two-year payment plan.

Pre-orders will start October 1 for the unique rotating phone. On Verizon, it will support the provider’s fast-but-finicky 5G Ultra Wideband as well as the lower-frequency standard 5G rolling out later in 2020. You can get a $250 virtual gift card if you buy a Wing and switch to the company, or up to $750 if you add a line ($500 for existing customers) while trading in an eligible device.

The functionality is otherwise familiar — relatively speaking. The LG Wing doesn’t offer a lot of performance for the price with its Snapdragon 765G chip (the same as in the Velvet) and 8GB of RAM, but its display technology is another story. You get a 6.8-inch, 1080p OLED main display that swivels to reveal a 3.9-inch secondary OLED screen for multitasking. You can watch a video at full quality while catching up on your social feeds, for example.

You’ll also get 128GB of expandable storage. You’ll also find a 64MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide and a 32MP selfie sensor, although the real highlight may be a 12MP ultra-wide gimbal camera on the back for recording action-packed videos.

AT&T and T-Mobile are also expected to carry the LG Wing, although they haven’t mentioned prices or release dates just yet. If you’re bent on Verizon, then, you may want to wait to see if there are potential deals. The $1,000 price isn’t as extravagant as for foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 2 or Razr 5G, but it might be worth shopping around.
