Lenovo unveils a trio of ThinkPad X1 laptops, including a new Nano

Lenovo updated its ThinkPad X1 line at CES 2022 with three new laptops: the X1 Carbon Gen 10, the X1 Yoga Gen 7, and the X1 Nano Gen 2. All three machines target mobile professionals and hybrid workers who want style, power, and portability in their work laptops. Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 series supports the latest 12th-Gen processors from Intel, improved communications tools, and robust multimedia options to make these well-rounded machines that work as hard as they play.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1: Core improvements
One of the core improvements across the line is the new communications bar that integrates an improved FHD webcam with larger pixels and a privacy shutter, and the 360-degree, far-field microphone array for the best possible collaborative video and audio sessions. Dolby Voice with AI noise cancellation helps reduce background noise during calls. The new X1s also sport computer vision functionality that recognizes when a person is sitting in front of the laptop for waking and unlocking purposes. Computer vision can even save power by dimming the display when the owner looks away.

Lenovo says buyers can opt for Intel vPro options including U15 and P28 processors, up to 32GB LPDDR5 memory, and up to 2TB PCIe Gen 4 storage options for improved speed and reduced latency. The systems boast new air intake designs in the keyboards to maximize thermal performance. Display options range up to 4K OLED with Dolby Vision, and the onboard speakers generate Dolby Atmos sound.
Where the Carbon offers the most power in a lightweight laptop, the Yoga goes for aluminum-clad style, and the Nano is Lenovo’s lightest compact ThinkPad option. Let’s look at the individual models.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10
The X1 Carbon is one of the highlights of the ThinkPad series. These laptops are powerful, light enough for travel, and often come with the best possible spec options in the industry. Lenovo made sure those points still ring true with its latest Gen 10 build.
The potential for customization is practically endless with the X1 Carbon. There are no fewer than seven 14-inch displays from which to choose. They all offer 16:10 aspect ratios and come in resolutions that include WUXGA, 2.2K, 2.8K, and WQUXGA. Brightness output ranges from 300 nits to 500 nits, and screen technologies include IPS LCDs and OLEDs. There are touch and non-touch options, as well as Eyesafe blue light filters.
Ports include two Thunderbolt 4, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI, audio, and nano-SIM for 4G/5G models. Wireless includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, 4G, and 4G/5G depending on the market. Dimensions run 315.6 x 222.50 x 15.36mm, and weight starts at 1.12kg (~2.5lbs). The Carbon has a 57Wh battery and supports rapid 65W charging.
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 comes in Deep Black and will be available from March 2022, with an expected starting price of $1,639.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7
Lenovo’s Yoga machines are for those who like flexibility. The Yoga series features 360-degree hinges, allowing the laptops to operate as traditional computers, presentation machines, video platforms, and even tablets. It ships with a housed Lenovo stylus.

While flexibility may be at the core of the Yoga Gen 7, it doesn’t offer quite so many customization options as the Carbon. For example, there are only four 14-inch screens from which to choose, including three WUXGA options and one WQUXGA option. They all sport 16:10 aspect ratios with touch support and are available in IPS LCD and OLED variants.
Ports include two Thunderbolt 4, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI, audio, and nano-SIM for 4G/5G models. Wireless includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, 4G, and 5G depending on the market. Dimensions run 314.4 x 222.3 x 15.53mm, and weight starts at 1.38kg (~3lbs). The Yoga has a 57Wh battery and supports rapid 65W charging.
The ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 comes in Storm Gray and will be available from March 2022, with an expected starting price of $1,749.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 2
Last in this trio of ThinkPads is the X1 Nano. The Nano, as its name implies, is the smallest and lightest of the three, making it a more ideal travel companion.
To start, the Nano has only two screen options, one touch and one non-touch. Both pack in 2K resolutions with 450 nits of brightness, low blue light ratings, and Dolby Vision. They have the same 16:10 aspect ratios as the other two devices.
The Nano also has fewer ports, which include two Thunderbolt 4, audio, and nano-SIM for 4G/5G models. Wireless includes the same Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and 4G/5G as its larger siblings. Dimensions run 293.2 x 208.0 x 14.47mm, and weight starts at 0.97kg (~2.1lbs). The Nano has a smaller 49.6Wh battery but it still supports rapid 65W charging.
The ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 2 will be available in Deep Black from April 2022, with an expected starting price of $1,659.
