Lenovo shows off a concept laptop with a display that rotates to portrait mode

We’ve seen laptops with dual screens. We’ve seen laptops with flexible screens that unfold into larger ones. We’ve even seen laptops with rolling screens that expand for a bigger real estate. Many of these concept-turned-products were showcased by Lenovo, which is now taking unveiling a new concept with another unusual screen layout. This new concept laptop, showcased at IFA 2025 today, embodies the rising trend for portrait monitors with a screen that swivels between portrait and landscape orientations.

Lenovo’s new ThinkBook VertiFlex is a proof of concept for a laptop with a screen that rotates along its center. The laptop, internally referred to as Project Pivo, features a 14-inch screen anchored to a mechanism that allows using the same screen in both orientations.

Lenovo emphasizes that the vertical display can be better utilized for reading longer documents, writing or reviewing code, or for better multitasking. Moreover, when the display is vertically aligned, the empty space behind it can also be utilized as a phone stand, so it can be used alongside the laptop.

Despite this mechanism for rotating the display, the laptop is only about 18mm (~0.7 inches) thick. Lenovo also claims the laptop weighs just 1.39kg (~3.1 lbs), but hasn’t revealed details about the material of construction. Additionally, there are no details about the screen’s resolution or the underlying display technology.

Lenovo also hasn’t specified whether this mechanism is driven by a motor or will need to be changed manually. We’re wondering because the brand has previously exhibited a concept laptop with a screen that flips out and spins on its own.

Lenovo hasn’t commented on the availability of this concept, nor has it shared any tentative specifications for the internal components. There are no claims about the laptop’s sturdiness either.

Notably, this isn’t the only laptop to feature a screen with a changeable orientation. A few years ago, Taiwanese manufacturer Compal unveiled a similar concept laptop called Pivobook, with a swivel screen. However, the similar naming might be purely coincidental — and likely inspired by “pivot.”

Meanwhile, Lenovo is having a busy day at IFA 2025, where it has launched the new Legion Go 2 gaming handheld, along with new gaming laptops, tower PCs, tablets, monitors, and even an extended reality headset.
