Update (1/20/18): A little earlier than expected, the luscious Lava Red OnePlus 5T is now available on OnePlus’ Indian website for Rs. 37,999. Check it out below.

Update (1/2/18): After the successful launch of the Lava Red OnePlus 5T in China, OnePlus is taking it to India. According to information obtained by Beebom, it will go on sale beginning January 26. India has always been an important market to OnePlus, so it makes sense that it would sell the Lava Red version there too. We’ve recently seen several special promotions and special edition devices launched in the country.

As a reminder, the Lava Red color only comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The Midnight Black OnePlus 5T is currently on sale for Rs. 37,999, while the Star Wars Limited Edition is Rs. 38,999. We don’t have pricing details yet, but it would make sense for it to launch in that range.

Original article (11/28/17): The OnePlus 5T is now shipping out to early adopters. The phone had only minor changes over its predecessor, but so far it’s been a hit. In fact, OnePlus says it is the fastest selling smartphone it has ever produced.

Why is the OnePlus 5T priced at $500?

The company only released the 5T in a Midnight Black color at launch, but today we’re getting an all-new color: Lava Red.

Unfortunately, there’s a catch. The new color option is only available in China on the $559 variant which has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. At this time there’s no word at this time if the device will be sold outside of China, but we’re hoping OnePlus changes its mind. Perhaps you could reach out to OnePlus on Twitter if you want to make your voice heard.

The OnePlus 5T comes with a 6-inch 2160 x 1080 display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. In the US, you can purchase it with either 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The battery capacity clocks in at 3,300 mAh and utilizes OnePlus’ proprietary Dash Charging for fast replenishment.

The dual-camera system has been reconfigured from the OnePlus 5. It drops the telephoto lens in favor of a second 20 MP sensor that uses groups of four pixels to perform better in low light. If you want to check out how the new camera system works, be sure to head over to our review of the OnePlus 5T for camera samples.

We’ll keep our eye on this new red variant and let you know if OnePlus decides to launch it in any other markets.
