OEM updates are typically a constant cause for concern among the Android enthusiast crowd. If Apple’s iOS deployment could be seen as a “best case” scenario, the sheer number of handsets running Google’s mobile OS – as well as the number of manufacturers who provide them – have basically rendered all but the Nexus devices subject to sluggish software refreshes. The problem gets even worse when considering the prospects of non-flagship devices.

It is with this understanding that one might be surprised by HTC’s dedication to its craft: 2014’s Desire 820 is now being updated to Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, according to a tip sent to GSM Arena:

Desire 820 Marshmallow

While it is currently unknown which model variants and regions are receiving the OTA, those that get it will receive Android 6.0.1 and Sense Version 7.0.

Originally released to the market last October, Android Version 6, known by its dessert-themed moniker Marshmallow, brings with it numerous features to Google’s mobile OS. One is Now On Tap which scans your current screen image for relevant information, Android Doze, which opts to better manage power usage during device downtime, and granular App Permissions that give you more control over what access your apps have to your phone and files.
