TL;DR
  • In addition to the Magic 2, HONOR announced a trio of other devices: the HONOR Watch Magic, HONOR Waterplay 8, and HONOR FlyPods.
  • The Watch Magic is HONOR’s first smartwatch, while the Waterplay 8 features two rear cameras.
  • The FlyPods come in two versions: normal FlyPods and the FlyPods Pro.

With the October madness finally drawing to a close, Huawei sub-brand Honor finally announced its rumored Magic 2 slider smartphone that avoids the polarizing notch. HONOR was not satisfied with just announcing a smartphone, however. The company also unveiled the Watch Magic smartwatch, Waterplay 8 tablet, and a set of truly wireless earbuds that reminds us of a certain fruit company’s earbuds.

HONOR Watch Magic

First up is the Watch Magic, which HONOR teased as its first smartwatch not too long ago. The Watch Magic features a 1.2-inch circular AMOLED display with 390 x 390 resolution, GPS, GLONASS, barometer, compass, and NFC. It also features a heart rate monitor, detects when you are sleeping and swimming, and monitors your pressure in real-time to provide breathing exercises after workouts.

The 178mAh might seem small, but HONOR claims it will be enough for a week of typical use. Helping the battery life is HONOR’s use of its own operating system instead of Wear OS, though the Watch Magic still syncs up with your phone and displays notifications.

The Watch Magic comes in two colors: Lava Black and Midnight Silver. The Lava Black model costs 899 yuan (~$129), while the Midnight Silver variant costs 999 yuan (~$143). Both color options are available in China, with no word on international availability. The Watch Magic’s listing on Vmall also shows a “fashion” version, though that option is grayed out at the time of this writing.

Waterplay 8

Next up is the Waterplay 8 tablet, which features an 8-inch IPS display with 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, HUAWEI’s octa-core Kirin 659 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a 5,100mAh battery, and Android 8.0 Oreo underneath EMUI 8.0. The tablet also supports GPU Turbo, HUAWEI’s graphics processing technology that promises increased processing efficiency and reduced power consumption when using graphics-intensive apps.

Interestingly, the Waterplay 8 features dual rear 13- and 5-megapixel cameras. It is not very often that we see dual rear cameras on a tablet, especially since you should never been seen using tablets to take pictures in public. The device even comes with an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, which is also somewhat uncommon for tablets.

The Waterplay 8 is available in China for 1,499 yuan (~$215).

FlyPods Pro

Finally, the FlyPods Pro are HONOR’s first truly wireless earbuds. They also takes plenty of inspiration from Apple’s AirPods, with a long stem and a plastic earbud that either fits your ear or doesn’t.

Even so, the FlyPods Pro include a few noteworthy features that help it stand out, such as bone-conducted voice recognition to better isolate your voice when you issue commands to HONOR’s Yoyo virtual assistant. The earbuds also support HWA audio and wireless charging when inside the case. HONOR also mentioned a feature that allows one missing earbud to automatically pair to another missing earbud.

Other features include an IP54 rating, touch controls for both earbuds, a USB Type-C port on the case, and three hours of battery life. The case provides up to an extra 20 hours.

HONOR did not say when the FlyPods Pro will be available, though they will cost 999 yuan (~$143) and come in Charm Red and “Lily of the Valley White.” Okay, HONOR. The company also announced a regular set of FlyPods earbuds that would cost 799 yuan (~$114), will be available November 6, and come in Robin Blue and that weird Lily of the Valley White again.
