TL;DR
  • HONOR has released MagicBook Pro, MagicBook 14, and MagicBook 15 laptops using AMD Ryzen 4000 chips.
  • The 16-inch model is chasing after the MacBook Pro and delivers “desktop-class” cooling.
  • There are also HONOR Pad 6 and X6 tablets running Android.

HONOR is best known for its phones, but the highlight at IFA 2020 may be its laptop line. The HUAWEI brand is introducing three MagicBook models at the expo that all use variants on AMD’s Ryzen 4000-series processors.

The MagicBook Pro (pictured) is a not-so-subtle challenger to the MacBook Pro with a 16.1-inch, color-accurate 1080p display in a chassis with a footprint similar to a 15.6-inch system. It’s using the mid-range, six-core Ryzen 5 4600H chip, but HONOR claims to have “desktop-class” cooling with dual fans and heat pipes that should give it an edge over some rivals. It reportedly outperforms a competitor with an eight-core Ryzen 7 4700U.

The system comes with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB solid-state drive. You can also expect a pop-up webcam, a 65W fast charger, and a relatively light body weighing just 1.7kg.

If you don’t need a large portable, there are refreshed versions of the MagicBook 14 and 15 using Ryzen 5 4500U chips that provide a roughly 33.7% jump in multi-core speed over their predecessors while improving heat dissipation. They support up to 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD as well, although there will be lower-spec models with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. You can expect battery life of up to 10.5 hours.

HONOR is rounding out the introductions with its first globally available tablets, the 9.7-inch HONOR Pad 6 and 10.1-inch HONOR Pad X6 (above). Both support the company’s Magic Pencil, pack stereo speakers, and offer dedicated eBook modes for avid readers. They’re easy to carry at as little as 7.6mm thick and a 1-pound weight.

Like newer HUAWEI Android devices, you’ll have to use AppGallery to grab more software.
