Add Android Authority on Google:
TL;DR
  • Google Search is getting a new Live Game Feed with play-by-play updates, video highlights, social reactions, and AI-powered insights.
  • Search is also adding deeper football stats, a league-wide score carousel, and upcoming championship odds and playoff brackets.
  • AI Mode can now connect to Yahoo Fantasy and Sleeper, using your actual roster to offer start/sit advice, waiver-wire suggestions, and more.

Google is giving football fans a few new reasons to keep Search open during games this season. Alongside a new live feed that brings more of the action directly into Search, Google is adding deeper stats and, perhaps most interestingly, letting fantasy football players connect their actual teams to AI Mode.

The biggest change is the new Live Game Feed. Search for a professional football game that’s underway, tap the red Live indicator, and you’ll get a running recap with play-by-play updates, social reactions, video highlights, and AI-generated insights. So, if you missed the first half because you were at work or stuck commuting, Search should give you a much better idea of how the game got to this point.

The Live Game Feed is rolling out now for professional football on mobile in the US, in English. College football support is coming later this month, alongside broader availability outside the US.

Google is also making its regular football results more useful. Searching for a matchup will bring up a carousel with scores from other games around the league, so you won’t have to search for each one individually. Search will also surface league leaders in categories like passing touchdowns and rushing yards, along with more detailed player stats such as sacks, fumbles, and yards after catch. Championship odds and playoff brackets are coming later, too. These Search upgrades will be available globally on mobile.

The feature I’m more curious about, though, is aimed squarely at fantasy football players. Google is letting users connect their Yahoo Fantasy or Sleeper accounts to AI Mode, giving it the context needed to provide advice that’s actually relevant to their team. That’s an important distinction. Asking AI whether you should start one quarterback over another isn’t particularly useful if it has no idea who’s sitting on your bench or what your league looks like. Once connected, AI Mode can factor in your live roster and leagues when answering questions.

You can ask who to start or sit before kickoff, get suggestions for waiver-wire pickups, have Google assess your draft choices, or request a weekly league recap. It essentially turns AI Mode into a fantasy assistant that already knows your team, rather than making you explain your roster every time.

Fantasy account connections are initially available in English in the US, with Yahoo Fantasy and Sleeper supported at launch. Google says it’ll continue improving the experience throughout the season.

For casual fans, the new live feed might be the feature they use most. But for anyone who spends Sunday morning staring at their fantasy lineup wondering whether they’re about to make a terrible decision, letting AI Mode see the team first could be far more interesting.
