Google could make it dead simple to get Gemini to remember things

If you often find yourself forgetting things that you were sure you’d remember, Gemini’s “Remember” command is definitely something you should be taking advantage of. While that’s useful on its own, we saw Google working on a new shortcut in the Android share sheet last month to make it easier to get Gemini to remember things. Now we’ve discovered evidence that the company could make the entire process even simpler still.

While taking a peek under the hood of the latest version of the Google app (v17.56.14), we discovered that Google is working on integrating Gemini’s “Remember” feature into the Gemini overlay. With a little tinkering, we got it to work on our test device as well.

With this feature, you will see a new “Remember” shortcut in the Gemini overlay when you circle any part of the screen. Tapping this option will send the image to Gemini, which will save any information within the selected area. It will also show you what it saved from the selection.

The feature will basically grab a screenshot of the selected area and send it to Gemini with a prompt to remember it for you. You will be able to see this by expanding the Gemini overlay, as shown in the screenshot below.

This could offer a couple of advantages. First, it could be even simpler than using the “Remember” shortcut from the Android share sheet; you won’t need to take a screenshot or manually send an image to Gemini. Second, it will allow you to send only relevant parts of your screen to Gemini, so it doesn’t end up remembering any useless information from the rest of the screen.

Even though this new “Remember” shortcut in the Gemini overlay seems to work as expected, we can’t be certain whether Google will roll it out anytime soon, or at all. We’ll track any future developments and share notable information with you as we get it.
