  • Google revealed late last year they were working on a Google Play Games app for Windows PCs.
  • Starting tomorrow, the app will be in open beta for Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and Australia.
  • In addition to expanding the beta, Google also reduced the minimum required PC specifications for using Google Play Games.

Starting today, Google Play Games for PC will enter open beta and be available for Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and Australia.

Back in late 2021, Google announced that it was working on bringing Android games to PC through its Google Play Games app. After launching a beta, the app was only available for certain regions — Hong Kong, Korea, and Taiwan — and you had to join a waitlist to gain access.

While the beta is still only available in certain regions, Google eventually expanded access to Thailand and Australia. Now, Google is taking its next step toward full release by getting rid of the limits on how many players can use the service in these areas.

If you live in Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, or Australia, you can download the app from the Google Play Games landing page.

In addition to opening the beta to more players, Google has also made the app more accessible by lowering the PC specifications required to use the platform.

According to Google, the Google Play Games app no longer demands a gaming class GPU. All you’ll need is an integrated GPU (e.g. Intel UHD Graphics 630 GPU or comparable). The CPU requirements have been lowered as well, only demanding four physical cores instead of eight logical cores. And finally, the amount of space needed has been halved from 20GB to 10GB of SSD storage.

Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on when Google plans to do a full release of the Google Play Games app. However, Google claims it will continue to add new features and listen to feedback from developers and players.
