TL;DR
  • A report claims Google’s upcoming foldable phone could be quite heavy.
  • The weight of the Pixel Fold may be due to the battery.
  • The handset allegedly has the largest battery in a foldable to date.

It’s not uncommon for foldable phones, like the Galaxy Z Fold 4, to be a bit heavier when compared to their more traditional counterparts. But, if a new rumor is true, Google’s Pixel Fold could be heavy even compared to other foldable phones.

According to 9to5Google, a source familiar with the subject claims the Pixel Fold will be a hefty device. It will allegedly be even heavier than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4. A likely explanation for this weight may be the phone’s battery.

Supposedly, Google’s upcoming foldable may be home to the largest battery found in any foldable to date. Devices like the Fold 4 and Oppo Find N2 have 4,400 mAh and 4,520 mAh batteries, respectively. According to 9to5Google, the Pixel Fold may instead have a battery size a little closer to 5,000mAh.

Thanks to leaked renders of the device, we already have a good idea of what to expect in terms of dimensions. It’s believed the handset will have a height of around 140mm and will be close to around 80mm wide. This would put it in line with the Find N2, which would be about 7mm thinner than Google’s phone.

As for the Fold 4, Samsung’s foldable measures in at a height of 155.1mm and a width of 130.1mm. As a result, the Fold 4’s inner screen creates somewhat of a square form, whereas the Pixel Fold’s inner screen would be closer to the form factor of a traditional tablet. This would optimize the Pixel Fold to take advantage UI elements meant for tablets.

What do you think about the Pixel Fold’s weight? Would it bother you if the Pixel Fold is heavier than other foldables, even if it means you get a bigger battery? Let us know in the comments below.
