Pixel 8 leak reveals Google is shrinking the display (Update: Not so fast)
- The design of the Pixel 8 has leaked thanks to renders outed by a trusted tipster.
- The phone will be smaller than the Pixel 7, but the screen size might be similar.
- The camera arrangement at the back seems unchanged compared to the Pixel 7.
Update: March 15, 2023 (9:26 AM ET): Well, it looks like the Pixel 8 could have a similar screen size as the Pixel 7 after all. Veteran leaker Steve ‘Onleaks’ Hemmerstoffer clarified that the Pixel 8 will indeed have a 6.2-inch screen.
Fortunately, Hemmerstoffer added that the overall dimensions (listed below) were accurate. So we’re still set to get a smaller device than the Pixel 8.
Original article: March 15, 2023 (3:52 AM ET): After the all-telling Pixel 8 Pro design leak yesterday, tipster OnLeaks has outed the renders for the vanilla Pixel 8 in partnership with Mysmartprice. The images and 360-degree video show that Google isn’t changing all that much on the standard Pixel this year. However, the display is shrinking.
The back of the Pixel 8 looks almost identical to the Pixel 7. The phone will continue to feature a dual-camera setup, which means the telephoto shooter could be limited to the Pixel 8 Pro.
Elsewhere, the Pixel 8’s design matches that of the leaked Pro model. It features similar rounded corners, resulting in a smaller display compared to the Pixel 7. As per the leak, the phone could get a 5.8-inch flat screen, down from the 6.3-inch display on the Pixel 7. That’s a substantial decrease. It’s even smaller than the 5.9-inch screen of the Asus Zenfone 9. The punch-hole selfie shooter retains its central position on the top of the screen.
Overall, the Pixel 8 also has a smaller footprint compared. to the Pixel 7. It measures 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9mm as per the leak. If you include the thickness of the camera bump, the Pixel 8 reportedly measures 12mm.
The power and volume buttons remain on the right side of the frame, which is believed to be made of metal. The bottom of the phone houses a USB-C port and cutouts for the speaker and microphone.
