The Google Pixel 6a, like its predecessors, is a mid-range premium device. This means it offers a near-high-end experience at a very accessible price point. Of course, manufacturers always have to make some sacrifices to achieve this. One of the first things to go is usually water resistance, so it makes sense to ask yourself: is the Google Pixel 6a waterproof?

The Google Pixel 6a is water resistant, but it doesn't meet the highest standards. It has an IP67 rating, which makes it water resistant only up to one meter of depth for 30 minutes.

Is an IP67 rating bad?

While it’s always better to have an IP68 rating, an IP67 rating isn’t terrible. The difference here is that the IP68 rating allows devices to go as deep as 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. On the other hand, an IP67 rating makes it possible to submerge a phone as deep as one meter for 30 minutes. As you can see, the difference isn’t huge, especially if that half meter will save you so much money on a capable smartphone.

You should never intentionally wet your device, even if it has good water and dust resistance. In fact, manufacturers usually don’t cover water damage under warranty. Google is very clear about its stance on this matter.

IP ratings are in place for those “just in case” situations. Chances are your IP67 phone will survive if you drop it in water or rain hits it. Try not to take it for a swim, though; washing it in the sink is also a bad idea. Avoid water getting in contact with your electronics as much as possible.

The Pixel 6a is water resistant, but it doesn’t meet the highest current standards in terms of water resistance. It has an IP67 rating, which means you should be able to submerge it up to one meter for 30 minutes.

While the Pixel 6a has a pretty good level of water resistance, it’s never the best idea to intentionally get it wet. Google’s warranty won’t cover water damage.

The Pixel 6a has an IP67 rating, which means it’s completely dust-tight, and no dust particles should be able to enter the device.

If you really must wet your phone, we recommend adding a second layer of protection. Find a good waterproof phone pouch, for example. Or at least purchase insurance.
