TL;DR
  • A new rumor suggests the Google Pixel 6a could revert to a May launch window.
  • This would be in line with pre-pandemic Google Pixel a-series launches.
  • However, it would be more than three months earlier than the Pixel 5a’s debut.

We’ve not heard much about the Google Pixel 6a‘s launch date despite the abundance of rumors so far. Speculation suggests the phone could launch as late as August, per Google’s pandemic-era Pixel a-series launches, or reverting to a more traditional spring launch date. Now, a new tip from a reliable source has added credence to the latter.

Tipster Max Jambor suggests that the Google Pixel 6a launch will take place in May 2022, nearly three months earlier than the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5a’s August arrivals.

It’s unclear if this rumored May launch date will coincide with Google’s I/O conference. With the possible move back to a May launch window for the Pixel 6a, it stands to reason that the phone could make its bow at the event like the Pixel 3a. However, Google has yet to confirm I/O 2022’s dates.

The Pixel 6a could borrow plenty of design traits from its Pixel 6 series siblings. Early leaked renders suggest an almost identical design to the base Pixel 6, albeit with a smaller display, less impressive specs, and a more accessible price.
