Would you be annoyed if you saw a survey in your phone's settings menu?
- Google is asking some users for their opinions when they enter the Settings app.

The Google Pixel 2 XL stole the spotlight in many respects in 2017. The phone is fantastic, but it also has some glaring issues. As Android enthusiasts, the Pixel 2 XL was one of our favorite phones of last year. In fact, a fair portion of our staff owns the device. But the truth is that Google cares more about what you think. Sure, we write about the phone, but there are a lot more of you than there are of us.
So, to better gauge how people are enjoying their devices, Google is putting out a survey. That’s not out of the ordinary for Google. The search giant has its own survey app that rewards you with Google Play credits for your answers. But the way Google is going about asking these questions is turning some heads. It isn’t sending surveys through a dedicated app, offering it up in the notification shade, or even on the Google Feed. No, it’s bugging people for their opinions in the settings menu.
Our friends over at Android Central noticed the survey earlier today. When entering the Settings application, a pop-up sat in the bottom right corner of the screen. The survey wasn’t mandatory, and gave the options to “take our survey” or press “no thanks.”
If you continue with the survey, you’re presented with a large pop-up over about half of the Settings app. It asks questions about how satisfied you are with the phone, when you started using it, and what your previous phone was. After you answer all the questions, you’re given the opportunity to type in any comments you’d like Google to see.
Right now, it’s not clear how Google is selecting potential participants for the survey. No one here at Android Authority has received the survey yet on either their Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL. Some users on Reddit as far back as seven months ago reported similar surveys on their first-generation Pixels, but with different questions.
While we don’t know why exactly Google is collecting this information, we must say that having pop-ups in your core OS apps is less than ideal.
