Google Messenger update

There is an update pushing out for the Google Messenger app. On the surface of it all, they have updated controls for the color schemes and changed up a few animations to smooth out a little lag.

The update to Google Messenger has only just started rolling to users, and may take the usual day or three to make all the rounds.

Looking at the changes, you can now take control of which color attaches to which conversation. Not that there is any real change to the colors, which have been there the whole time, but the previously randomly assigned to messages. Now you can hit the People and Options button in the overflow menu and decide who gets to be what color in your world.

As for those new animations, some users have complained of a significant delay and lag in the old sliding animation when entering a conversation. Instead of using this unique animation, Google Messenger has been re-tooled to utilize Material Design techniques. A smart move, and perhaps curious that Google did not do so in the first place.

You can head on into the Google Play Store to grab your fresh copy of Google Messenger or hang on for the update to hit your device. Of course, if you just can’t wait, there are a few sources out there that may possibly have captured the apk for download.

What do you say, are you ready for a refresh of Google Messenger?
