Google Home can now stream tracks you purchased/uploaded on Play Music

Google is bringing a new feature to its Home device that music lovers will welcome with open arms: you can now listen to songs that you’ve uploaded to and purchased on Google Play Music.

In case you didn’t know, Play Music previously only worked with the Google Home by playing free radio stations or by subscribing to its All Access service. This has now changed, which is great news especially for those who have uploaded songs to their account that aren’t available in Google Play Music’s library.

If you don’t have a Google Play Music subscription and you ask the Home speaker to play a certain song, it will give preference to your uploaded and purchased tracks over free radio stations. However, subscription on demand content will be played before your purchased/uploaded songs, unless you tell the device otherwise by saying “Play X <from my library>.”

Another thing worth mentioning is that the “Play <genre/mood/activity>” voice command isn’t supported for uploaded/purchased music. In this case, the device will search for tracks either in the free radio stations or in Play Music’s library for those who have a subscription.

The company is already rolling out the new feature in all regions where Google Home is supported.
