Update 6/28/2018 at 9:55 A.M. EST: Google sent out the tweet below stating that a fix is rolling out for problem Chromecasts and Google Home hardware. If you wait long enough, the fix will roll out to your device(s) automatically; but if you want them to work right away, simply perform a reboot following Google’s instructions here.

Original Article (6/27/18): Today, users across the globe found that both Google Home smart speakers and Google Chromecast streamers weren’t working properly. Usually, these kinds of issues are user-specific, but not this time. This time, it actually is Google!

The official “Made by Google” Twitter account posted the following tweet in response to one of the many complaints about faulty Chromecasts and Home hardware:

Hey there, sorry for the trouble. We don’t have a time frame, but rest assured that our team is working hard to have this fixed — we’ll let you know once we have an update. Thanks for bearing with us.

Google also independently confirmed with TechCrunch that the problem is real, but didn’t offer any kind of explanation as to why.

The problem Chromecast users face is a pretty big one: they are unable to cast media. The Chromecast icon is missing from specific apps, and users are also unable to cast from the Google Home app.

Google Home hardware, meanwhile, faces a similarly devastating problem: voice commands don’t work. One user tweeted that they even tried to factory reset their Google Home to no avail:

@madebygoogle Since today when i say OK GOOGLE, home replies me with “Google home has not setup yet. Download Google Home app”. I even tried factory reset but Google home is replying with same command. Can anybody help here

Hopefully, Google delivers a fix for these problems soon, as these issues obviously render Home and Chromecast hardware useless.
