Add Android Authority on Google:
TL;DR
  • Gemini has a new Customize menu to add and manage apps and skills.
  • The menu provides access to 40+ different capabilities that users can add to the AI assistant.
  • The change is rolling out now to Gemini on all platforms.

Google’s making it easier to add apps and skills to Gemini. Starting today, a new Customize menu is rolling out to the Gemini interface on all platforms, putting a selection of compatible apps right at your fingertips.

Google announced the new menu today in a blog post. A new option labeled Customize is showing up in the left-hand menu of the Gemini interface, opening a menu that provides easy access to dozens of different apps and skills that can interface with Google’s AI assistant.

The Customize menu is divided into three tabs: Discover, which shows a handful of different app and skill types; Connectors, featuring external apps that can be connected to Gemini; and Skills, which features a handful of preconfigured skills for Gemini, as well as a button to create your own.

The Connectors tab features Google-built apps like Gemini Notebook, Google Photos, and YouTube, as well as apps for third-party services like GitHub, Shopify, and Dropbox. The ready-made Skills on offer include options to explicitly allow Gemini to try to mimic your writing style in its text output, prepare for meetings, workshop ideas, and more.

Google’s announcement says that the rollout could take up to 15 days to reach all users, but I’m seeing the new menu right now on the web. Google says it’s rolling out now on Android, iOS, Windows, and MacOS, too.
