Google's Olympics doodle is a slick 16-bit RPG that you should play
- Google has launched a rather crazy Google doodle for the 2020 Olympics.
- Doodle Champion Island Games is a 16-bit RPG featuring Olympic events.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics are finally getting underway today, following months of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, Google is ready to mark the occasion with a Google doodle, and this might be one of the best doodle games yet.
The Olympic-themed game is called Doodle Champion Island Games and takes the form of a 16-bit role-playing game (RPG), complete with a slick opening animation, a top-down perspective for the overworld, non-player characters to talk to, and areas/buildings to explore.
Otherwise, the main goal of the game is to beat other characters in a variety of mini-games. These mini-games include table tennis, running, archery, skateboarding, and rugby. But there are also several basic side-quests, in keeping with the RPG formula.
Google also lets you join one of four teams (blue, green, red, yellow), and you can check out an in-game leaderboard to see which team is at the top of the rankings.
In any event, you can try out Doodle Champion Island Games via Google.com. You can also find check out our guide to streaming the Tokyo 2020 Olympics at the previous link.
