It looks like we may be seeing some reliable information about Google’s new mobile VR platform. Variety is reporting that “multiple sources” have confirmed that the first Daydream VR headset will be unveiled tomorrow at the search giant’s October 4th event, and that the price tag is supposed to be $79.

Google’s affordable VR headset is an answer to the Samsung Gear VR. Like the Gear VR, it will use your phone as a display, but instead of using a simple touchpad as a controller, the Daydream headset will have a motion-sensitive bar that reminds us of a Kinect or Wii remote.

The evidence seems strong that the Pixel and Pixel XL, which are also slated for unveiling tomorrow, will be promoted for their Daydream capabilities.

The Daydream VR platform will be an important one, because for many people, it will provide the most immersive, highest quality VR experience that they will have access to. For many, the price tags of more robust systems like the HTCVive and the Oculus Rift place them out of fiscally responsible range for many users, and even the less expensive PlayStation VR platform sees you coughing up about the price of your entire PS4 system all over again.

While Google Cardboard is still the most affordable platform, it quickly becomes evident that it’s little more than a toy designed to show you what is possible. Daydream is an extension of this hyper-affordable design that lets you get a higher quality VR experience without breaking the bank. Its price range makes it competitive with Gear VR, as it undercuts it by $20. It’s also offers support for a wider range of devices.

We’ll have to wait for the official announcement tomorrow for the full details, but while we wait, let us know what you think of Daydream VR in the comments below! Would you fork over $80 for this product?
