TL;DR
  • Google Clips is currently on sale at the Google Store for $199.
  • The camera was released earlier this year and uses AI to automatically choose when to take photos.
  • Shipping is free, but the deal is available only in the US.

The Google Clips camera, a device that uses AI to automatically take short video clips and photos, is currently on sale at the Google Store website in the US. Google Clips was released in January this year for $249 but the promotion sees it brought down to $199 until May 13.

While an AI-powered camera may seem like a far cry from more traditional Mother’s Day gifts, it makes more sense than you might think. The camera’s unique selling point is that it uses artificial intelligence to shoot what it judges to be opportune moments. Just set it up, and it will automatically take short video clips and photos when it sees fit; you can even link it to your Google Photos account to help the camera recognize faces. When you’ve looked over what’s been snapped, you can then decide which of the moments to keep, and which to delete.

Narwal Freo X Ultra - Exceptional Power. Minimal Maintenance.

It’s a neat idea for parents who want to capture special moments while their children are growing up. In our Google Clips review, we found that, while it won’t capture every significant thing that happens, it does a good job of recording plenty of “normally impossible shots” — things that occur before you’ve had a chance to snap them with your smartphone camera.
