Godville - Indie app of the day

Today's indie app of the day is Godville. In this ZPG (Zero Player Game), you don't do anything other than play as god for an adventurer. It's hilarious.

What is Godville?

Godville is what is called a Zero Player Game (ZPG). That means the game plays itself and will continue to play itself whether or not you decide to do anything. It’s currently free in the Google Play Store with in app purchases.

Here’s how the game works. In Godville you keep watch over an adventurer. The adventurer “tweets” (their verbiage) what he’s doing all the time which makes it essentially look like a text-based game. The hero will make decisions, level up, and do his own thing regardless of what you do. You play the part of god in this quirky little universe and you can send “signs” to the adventurer to do things. Of course, whether or not he listens is entirely up to him.

This game is a lot of fun but not the same kind of fun you get from other games. To make up for the fact that you don’t have to do anything, Godville employs a lot of witty banter and quirkiness. You can command the adventurer but you can also punish and reward him as well. You can also keep an eye on your stats, the adventurers stats, and other managerial things. This of it like a minimal, comical version of the classic PC game Black and White.

Godville review
Overall, Godville is fun and hilarious. It employs a different kind of game mechanic and it’s one that is perfectly suited for lazy people. Those who are interested can download the game free of charge so there’s no harm in trying it out.
