Add Android Authority on Google:
TL;DR
  • Google is working on redesigning the Gmail settings page on Android.
  • The redesign could nest settings into relevant categories to keep everything organized.
  • It will also give Chat- and Meet-related settings their own space on the settings page.

Google seems to have had a sudden inspiration to redesign the settings pages for its apps. We’ve already spotted evidence of a redesigned settings page for the Google app and the Gemini app, and now it seems Google is turning its attention to Gmail.

You’re reading an Authority Insights story. Authority Insights brings you all the latest exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage from the Android Authority team that you won’t find anywhere else.

Digging through the latest version of the Gmail app (v2026.10.05.993506826), we found evidence that a redesigned settings page is in development. Naturally, we tinkered with things until we managed to enable the redesign on our test device so we could give you a first look at what Google’s cooking.

Right now, the Gmail settings page shows a “General” category, followed by all the Gmail accounts you’ve added to your phone. Tapping on “General” opens the general settings for the app, and selecting an email account from the list opens settings specific to that account.

With the redesign, Google will consolidate these settings into a single page, organized into clear categories to keep things clean. To change the settings for a different Gmail account, you’ll first have to switch accounts from the Gmail account switcher and then come back to the settings page.

To keep the primary settings page uncluttered, several individual settings will be nested into dedicated categories. For example, notification-related settings will sit behind an “Email notifications” category on the main settings page. There will be similar categories for “Inbox customizations,” “Writing assistance,” and other settings.

The redesign will also give Chat and Meet settings their own space on the settings page. Right now, these options sit nestled among every other setting in the Gmail app. The redesigned layout will make it easier to enable or disable Chat and Meet in Gmail while consolidating related settings within the primary “Chat” or “Meet” categories.

Google hasn’t actually started testing this redesigned UI with users, and we only managed to surface these screens with a lot of tinkering. That said, the new settings page seems to be working as expected, so here’s hoping Google rolls it out sooner rather than later.
