Introducing the Gary Explains YouTube channel

There are so many areas of technology that Gary would like to cover, but they aren't directly related to mobile. Introducing the new Gary Explains YouTube Channel...

Published onMarch 12, 2018

Almost two years ago, I started a new series here at Android Authority called Gary Explains. It all started with a look at Optical Image Stabilization and then in quick succession: assembly language, root, kernels, cache memory, and threads. Since then, I’ve made almost 70 videos, often with an accompanying article. Personally, it has been great fun and the feedback from our audience has been tremendous. Thank you.

The only trouble with the Gary Explains series is that there are many topics that I would like to tackle, however, they are outside the realm of mobile technology. While there is a lot of crossover between the technology in our mobile devices and the technology we use further afield, there are whole areas of interesting tech that just don’t feature on mobile devices. That leaves me with two options: 1) Ignore all that interesting technology as it doesn’t fall under the banner of mobile tech, or 2) Cover it anyway!

Gary Explains

So we have opted for the latter. Since the main Android Authority YouTube channel is dedicated to mobile technology, it seemed best to launch a separate YouTube channel for this new series.

Therefore, it is my pleasure to introduce the new Gary Explains YouTube channel.

The videos on this new channel will follow a very similar format to those on the Android Authority channel, however with a much wider scope. Beyond mobile tech, I hope to be able to cover a wide range of subjects, including servers, PCs, the internet, networking, Linux, Windows, macOS, software development, space, maths, science, digital cameras, videography, and much more.

That doesn’t mean I won’t be making Gary Explains videos for Android Authority. On the contrary, there is still much to cover with regards to mobile technology. There will be new CPU cores announced, new GPUs, new versions of Android, plus, we are only just starting down the 5G road. Whenever the topic I am covering is related to mobile, then you can be sure that it will be covered here.

So far there have been requests for videos about cloud technology, the differences between macOS and Windows, and cryptocurrency. What do you want to see explained?
