Samsung made a few compromises to achieve the sleek design of the Galaxy S6, and the removal of the microSD card slot is probably the biggest one. However, there’s some still some hope left for Samsung fans who can’t go without expandable memory, as the upcoming Galaxy S6 Active is rumored to include a microSD slot. Now what’s believed to the S6 Active has been spotted in the Bluetooth SIG database.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is the body that oversees the implementation of Bluetooth connectivity in all devices; as such, unannounced phones can often be spotted in its public database. Valuable info can sometimes be gleaned from Bluetooth SIG listings, though that’s not the case for the Samsung smartphone codenamed SM-G890A.

There is no hard rule saying that a device spotted in the BSIG database has to be launched soon, but this milestone tells us that the device is on its way, and that its release will happen sooner rather than later.

From older reports, we believe the Galaxy S6 Active will feature specifications that are similar to the Galaxy S6 (5.1-inch screen, Exynos 7420, 3GB of RAM) but with a larger 3,500 mAh battery and a microSD slot. Of course, some level of water resistance and ruggedness is to be expected, just like on the S5 Active and S5 Sport from last year.
