New Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus leak sets us up for grave disappointment, this time for fast charging

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S27 has been leaked and rumored several times over the last few weeks. Even though the series is several months away from launch, several leaks suggest a major direction change Samsung may be planning for the next flagship lineup. These changes include an iPhone-inspired design for the camera island, though these changes could be limited to the Galaxy S27 Ultra and the new Pro variant. While the vanilla and Plus models remain on the roster, Samsung may march forth with small upgrades only, and new information doesn’t contradict this notion.

The charging speeds of the Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27 Plus have been listed on China’s 3C approval registry (via tipster Abhishek Yadav on X). According to this leak, the shorter Galaxy S27 will maintain a peak wired charging speed of 25W, while the taller Galaxy S27 Plus could support charging only up to 45W.

These figures have remained constant for several iterative models, with the base Galaxy S series sticking to 25W over the last eight generations, i.e., since the Galaxy S20. Meanwhile, the 45W figure hasn’t changed for the Plus model either, which has maintained the same speed since the Galaxy S22 Plus.

This lack of upgrades especially puts the base model in jeopardy, as the cheaper subordinate, Galaxy S26 FE, comes with faster charging speeds up to 45W. Meanwhile, Samsung upgraded the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s charging to 60W earlier this year. The Galaxy S27 Ultra — and the smaller analog, Pro — could maintain the same speeds, if not upgrade them.

Despite similar wired charging speeds, the Galaxy S27 series is rumored to bring a wireless charging upgrade with built-in magnets for MagSafe-style magnetic latching. However, we might not see upgrades in terms of wireless charging speeds.
