TL;DR
  • Teaser listing reveals Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus will launch exclusively on Amazon in India
  • Pricing and a release date for Samsung’s larger mid-range device have yet to be revealed
  • Galaxy A8 Plus sports a 6-inch Full HD+ display and a dual front-facing camera with Live Focus

We’re less than a week away from CES 2018 where, among a flood of other major consumer tech announcements and reveals, Samsung will show off its new mid-range smartphones, the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8 Plus (2018).

We already know almost everything about the two devices – you can check out a full spec list here – but availability and pricing is still up in the air. While US pricing and a launch date should come at the Las Vegas show, an Amazon listing has now confirmed that the larger Galaxy A8 Plus will arrive in India as an Amazon exclusive.

At the moment, the listing is just a teaser page where consumers in the region can sign up for availability updates. As such, we don’t have any price details at time of writing.

Spec showdown: Samsung Galaxy A8 series vs Galaxy A7 and A5
News

The regular Galaxy A8 is currently up for pre-order in Samsung’s home country of South Korea for the equivalent of $564, so it seems likely that the Galaxy A8 Plus will push beyond the $600 mark in all regions, but somewhere below the $650 threshold.

With top-tier devices still something of a hard sell in India’s emerging market, the A-series represents a nice balance between the S-series flagships and Samsung’s popular J-series phones.

As a refresher, the Galaxy A8 Plus sports a 6-inch Full HD+ panel with an 18:5:9 aspect ratio and carries an overall design similar to Samsung’s 2017 flagships, the Galaxy S8, S8 Plus, and Note 8.

It also features a dual 16MP + 8MP front-facing camera with a Live Focus mode that lets you alter the background blur in selfies after taking a photo. The Galaxy A8 Plus is powered by an octa-core processor backed by 4GB of RAM, 32/64GB of storage, and a 3,500 mAh battery.

With Xiaomi making steady gains, could the Galaxy A8 Plus help swing momentum back to Samsung in the hotly contested Indian market? Let us know in the comments.
