Fast charging broken for some Samsung Galaxy S8/S8 Plus owners

It seems as though the October security patch has broken fast charging for some Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus owners. Are you affected by the bug?

Samsung owners have taken to the internet to voice their displeasure with a recent update. Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus are having issues charging their phones. The problem seems to stem from a bug in the October security patch that Samsung pushed last month. Once installed, it is preventing the devices from using fast charging. Normal charging is still working as expected, but the lack of fast charging is frustrating owners.

Luckily, the issue isn’t affecting everyone. Samsung has been slowly pushing the update out, with some regions like India not seeing the patch until mid-November. Because of this, not all owners have received the patch on their devices yet. And some users who did get it say their fast charging is working fine. Samsung has yet to comment on the issue, so we don’t know if a fix is coming soon or not. We’d expect something like this to be patched in a future monthly security update, but until Samsung releases a statement, we’re in the dark.
@SamsungSupport @sprintcare Latest S8 update (SM-G955U, build number ending QJH) has broken fast charging (1). (2) when 100% wireless charging, screen keeps turning on and off ALL NIGHT LONG. Extremely annoying. Major, major issue. Help us!

This incident is obviously a black eye for Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy S8 gets pretty pedestrian battery life as it is and some are now complaining it is taking up to six hours to recharge their phone. We’ll stay on top of this story and update you when we have more details to share.

Galaxy S8 owners, are you seeing this issue? Let us know down in the comments if you’re being affected.
