So what is Star, and what can Disney Plus subscribers watch when they click or tap on the brand? Here’s everything we know about the service so far.

What is Disney Star?

Disney Star is the brand name that Disney is using for a section of Disney Plus in most international countries. It’s similar to the Marvel, Pixar, Disney, Star Wars, and National Geographic brands in the service. Star includes TV shows and movies created or purchased by Disney that have a more mature and adult audience bent. It includes many movies and shows from its recent purchase of the 20th Century Studios library. Star also offers local content from those countries, along with sports via ESPN.

Where is it available?

Currently, it is available as part of Disney Plus in Canada, a few European countries, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. Star will be launched as part of Disney Plus later in 2021 in Eastern Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea. In June 2021, Star Plus will be launched in Latin America. However, it will be a stand-alone app in that part of the world and will not be part of Disney Plus.

Why is Star not available for Disney Plus in the US?

In the US, Disney has decided to continue to offer more mature movie and TV content via its separate Hulu streaming service. Much of Hulu’s original content will be shown as part of the Disney Star section of Disney Plus internationally.
