Google has been working toward a more capable, agentic Android experience with Gemini Intelligence, but users are still waiting for that vision to fully materialize. Meanwhile, Anthropic has launched a new app to put a proactive AI assistant to work on your Android phone.
Called Claude Duet, the app is now available in research preview on Android, iOS, and the web. Anthropic says it’s designed for professionals and small business owners, but it sounds like something any power user would appreciate.
Claude Duet goes beyond answering questions to help users manage their work, prioritize important tasks, and get things done when they step away. It works across connected apps, sending users a short morning briefing that covers what needs their attention. It then monitors those apps throughout the day and sends notifications when action is required, rather than expecting users to constantly check in with an AI assistant.

The app can also handle tasks directly. Anthropic cites examples ranging from scheduling meetings to building dashboards, preparing financial and sales forecasts, prototyping, and developing web apps. It’s designed to decide which tasks need immediate attention, what can wait, and when it should ask for permission before acting on a user’s behalf.
That last point is particularly important for an AI agent that can access personal and professional information.
But what about privacy and security?
Anthropic says Claude Duet comes with safeguards designed to prevent unauthorized actions and protect sensitive information.
The AI agent can’t directly access users’ passwords or sign-in tokens, and its safety systems are designed to prevent the disclosure of highly sensitive details like credit card numbers and government IDs. Meanwhile, other sensitive information, like health and financial details, can be shared only when users explicitly instruct it to do so.
The app is built around Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 model. However, access isn’t open to everyone just yet. Claude Duet is currently available through a waitlist as a research preview, and users will need a Claude Pro or Max subscription to try it. It also uses the same usage limits as the rest of Claude.
