The Chromecast with Google TV is now getting an important update with several key improvements and new features.

The April update carrying firmware version QTS1.210311.005 was spotted by a Reddit user. It weighs 166MB so it’s not that big, but the changelog reveals some interesting new features.

You’ll now find a new Advanced Video Controls setting under the Display & Sound section. It’ll give you granular control over HDR formats, resolution, refresh rate, and color formats.

HDMI-CEC can now be configured to turn your TV on/off. HDMI hotplug improvements will also help your Chromecast with Google TV detect the best display settings available for your television.

Many users don’t use an Ethernet adapter for Chromecast with Google TV. For them, Google has made Wi-Fi improvements to 5Ghz and mesh networks. Bluetooth audio stuttering has also been addressed in the latest update.

Lastly, the new firmware for Chromecast with Google TV upgrades its security patch level to April 2021. The last security update that the streaming device got was in December so this is a welcome jump.

The remote of the device is also getting an update to version 24.7. You can head to the settings for the remote to find the new software.
