The Chromecast with Google TV 4K is getting an update after nearly a year

When Google replaced the Chromecast with Google TV 4K with the Google TV Streamer, it delivered a welcome hardware upgrade, including a noticeably faster processor. Still, launching with an older chipset made the new hardware feel less ambitious than it could have been. Rumors now suggest Google plans to address that with an even faster processor in the next-generation Streamer. But until that device arrives, the company hasn’t completely forgotten about the aging Chromecast still sitting behind plenty of TVs.

Google is now rolling out the first Chromecast with Google TV 4K update of 2026, and it arrives nearly a year after the device’s November 2025 update.

The new build, UTTA.260813.002, moves the Chromecast from the October 2025 Android security patch to the August 2026 security patch. Google also lists the usual bug fixes and performance improvements, though it doesn’t appear to include any major new features.

More interestingly, this rollout appears to be exclusively for the Chromecast with Google TV 4K. The cheaper HD model hasn’t received a corresponding update yet, which is unusual since Google has frequently updated the two devices together. There’s also nothing new for the current Google TV Streamer.
