Update (1/3): A previous version of this post stated that CarbonROM would release nightlies for its list of supported devices. However, CarbonROM plans on releasing weeklies for its devices, not nightlies. We apologize for the error.

Additionally, the developers behind the ROM have expanded their list of supported devices to the Pixel XL, Nexus 5X and Sony Xperia Z2.

Original post (1/2): If you have been a long time Android custom ROM fan, you might be familiar with CarbonROM. It was highly popular back when Android 4.4 Kitkat was all the rage. Now the team has returned and has launched its first very early weekly builds for a few phones based on the current Android 7.1.1. Nougat OS.

The new weeklies are for the Google Pixel, along with the older Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P phones. The build is also available for three of Sony’s mobile devices, the Xperia Z3, the Xperia Z3 Compact and the Xperia Z5. Finally, a build is also available for the NVIDIA Shield Tablet. More smartphone and tablet support should be added in the near future.

Keep in mind that if you do download these early CarbonROM builds, you can expect to see more than the fair share of bugs and issues, so you should proceed at your own risk. Having said that, it’s good that the team has decided to come back together again to relaunch this once popular third-party ROM for hardcore Android users.
